Ascension Day is the 40th day of Easter, occurring 39 days after the internationally recognized, Easter Sunday. According to Christian belief, the holiday commemorates Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven.

 

What countries celebrate this holiday?

 

 

Ascension day is a public holiday in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Vanuatu. On the other hand, Ascension Day is not a federal public holiday in other countries such as Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States. 

 

 

How do people celebrate this holiday?

 

 

In the countries that recognize Ascension Day as a public holiday, it is celebrated on a Thursday, the 40th day of Easter and many of the region's workers have a free day. Special services take place at churches throughout those countries. 

 

 

What happens in the markets on this day?

 

 

Most trading markets are open during the Ascension holiday but a few do close including Norway's, Oslo Stock Exchange Market.
